Task:

Design and build a temporary housing unit utilizing a 10-by-10 prefabricated shed for the Shadow Hills Riding Club to accommodate people with mental or physical disabilities.
Restrictions: Provide space for two people for sleeping, remain ADA accessible, comply to zero maintenance, provide adequate natural light, ventilation, and insulation.

Design Challenge:

Keep the original memory of the shed, remain within its original 10-by-10 footprint, incorporate a musical component into the design, and completed using recycled materials within a $1,500 budget.

Design Process:

Manipulate the 10’ x 10’ footprint to explore all possibilities within “Design Challenge” boundaries. Footprint shrunk to amplify any noise created within the shed for music. A series of sono tubes were integrated into the walls containing different programs such as: storage, lighting, ventilation, and musical instruments. The cabin was faceted with multiple platforms circulating individuals into the upper floors of the cabin adding 50% more square footage.
